Marbled Rubber Frog spotting

Marbled Rubber Frog (Phrynomantis annectens)

KUD

Amphibians are not immidiately associated with arid, rocky areas, however, there are several frog species in the Erongo Mountains, like for example the Marbled Rubber Frog (Phrynomantis annectens). Rubber frogs are brightly coloured, mostly with reddish markings on a black background. Their rubbery skin contains high consentrations of cardiotoxins, which may kill other frogs if they are placed in the same container. Rubber frogs climb, crawl or walk, rather than that they hop. In the Erongo Mountains they are very common in granite areas where they hide in moist crevices during the dry season and breed in temporary rock pools during the rainy season, when the males utter an insect-like trill.
